Smarter Solution than Vaccine!

Namaste,

I am Kanika and today let’s talk about what we can do before the vaccine for coronavirus arrives.

Let’s look at some of the past decades. We have seen so many serious disease outbreaks. And there has to be a way because vaccines always take a longer duration to develop.

How Vaccine Works?

The concept of vaccine has two aspects. The first aspect is vaccination; where we insert some kind of antigen inside the body. Now, this antigen can be special molecule from pathogens, dead pathogen or live attenuated form of pathogen. And second aspect is role of the body where it identifies the pathogen and develops an antibody for it.

So, you know, the vaccine is not exactly a cure for a disease. It is just an artificial method to trigger the immunity of the body and then the immunity, the immune system of the body makes the antibodies that are actually required to kill the virus or any pathogen, and because the fact is that we are not capable of making antibodies outside the body. We can only trigger the immunity.

But then there are so many people who are actually infected by this coronavirus, and yet they’re asymptomatic because their immune system was strong enough to handle the virus and keep it in check. And, you know, there is one very important question.

Can we all do it?

And if yes, then how?

Immunity is the reason why the slum children living by the side of gutter, survive and thrive; sometimes even better than kids living in very hygienic conditions, because they have a very strong immunity and even a common cold virus can kill an HIV person because he has low immunity.

So immunity is the key for survival against any disorder.

And corona virus has underlined the role of immunity. The elderly people esp. above 75 years of age have the highest death rate; as their natural immunity is lower as compared to children or youth. Besides people suffering from severe illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disorders have a significantly higher death rate compared to people with no co-morbidity.

It is always advised not to get vaccinated when you are sick or suffering from a fever Because when you are sick, your body is already fighting one battle. And vaccines will provide more toxins or more pathogens inside the body and the body will have to shift its focus from one battle to the other battle. Therefore, vaccines also work on the basis of immunity. If there is no immunity, even vaccines are useless!

According to Ayurveda, there can be a countless number of diseases, given the complexity of our metabolic system. And even with a modern perspective, there can be a countless number of mutations, pathogenic mutations in all kinds of microbes and therefore, in every few years, we will have a new virus, a new fatal virus!

Here, the vaccine has a little problem.

You cannot develop a vaccine for an unknown pathogen. And normally vaccines are developed only after a significant number of people are infected by a particular pathogen. However, it is a dangerous approach because in this manner, a vaccine will develop only after a pathogen has killed a certain number of people and therefore vaccination is a great solution, but it is regressive in nature.

It is always behind schedule!

And with more frequent outbreaks of pathogens, new forms of pathogens, we need a more aggressive solution along with vaccination.

Vaccination is an artificial support for developing immunity so that we can develop the technique to fight the real pathogen! but what if we are able to enhance the immunity so that we are ready for any unknown pathogen any time.

Here is another perspective.

Any pandemic epidemic is a vaccination drive by nature. And what if you are able to encounter the virus and your body is able to identify the virus and develop its antibody all at the same time in a very, very short duration? Then you will not fall sick!

And this is something which we can call a perfect state of immunity.

And what if your body can do that?

Is it not safer and more effective?

Because in that case, you would not have to wait for the vaccines!

And in this context, Ayurveda or any form of natural medicine has a very, very aggressive approach because it does not focus on the pathogen outside.  It focuses on the body.  It focuses on innate immunity, on enhancing the immunity and preserves the health of the healthy, irrespective of the external conditions.

And that’s why, whether it is coronavirus, Zika, Bird Flu, SARS or any new form of fatal pathogen,  your body will be able to encounter the pathogen; self-vaccinate itself instantly and you will not fall sick.

You might get the infection. The virus might get inside your body, but you will stay asymptomatic.

And we have already seen many such cases in case of coronavirus, there are people who are infected, but they’re not falling sick. If a person has great immunity, he will be able to develop resistance instantly without any vaccination. And this is the direction in which we should look at, because you don’t know when the coronavirus vaccine is going to actually be there.

And do you think that coronavirus is the last one?

They can be an endless chain of such mutated viruses every few years. and what if the drug-resistant pathogens attack??? We don’t even have proper medicines for them.

And therefore, the only Long-Term, Short-Term, and Real solution is to meet the body’s so strong that it would be able to fight off any and any pathogen.

Period!

Healing through the Magical Water

Photo by Valeria Ushakova on Pexels.com

Today, there is no guarantee that the food, medicine, or even water that you drink is healthy enough. But we see that children happily survive in slums, whereas some die with strange, inexplicable phenomena like sudden infant death syndrome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_infant_death_syndrome

Ayurveda and all ancient medical sciences believe that the mind plays a huge role in health. A balanced mind can maintain a perpetual state of perfect health. Similarly, the mind can change or improve the effectiveness of the food we eat or the water we drink.

In ancient India, rishis or sages used to keep just a camandal or a unique jug to carry water. It is believed that they had the power to infuse magical qualities in water and survive only on that.

Ancient Chinese monks practiced the art of bigu. Bigu is a state of complete abstinence from food and water. It is a state of perfect physical sustenance without any gross energy supplement from outside. Imagine a person who does not need to eat or drink anything! But they also achieved the final state of bigu through the use of some herbs and unique magical water. I believe that they prepared this magical water through the power of meditation. https://sites.google.com/site/delawareteasociety/yoked-to-earth-a-treatise-on-corpse-demons-and-bigu

I believe that magic water heals the higher layers of existence and therefore, its effect is immediate and magical. If done properly, it might cure the most impossible disorders immediately.

Daiv vyapashraya

Ayurveda has 3 branches of healing. The most effective and yet the least known is Daiv vyapashraya. The word Daiv means divinity and vyapashraya signifies “to take shelter in” or to apply. The magic water treatment is a past of Daiv vrapashraya chikitsa.

Ayurveda believes that the divine energy that runs our body can be directly contacted. And we can resolve our physical problems through ensuring an unhindered flow of this energy.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/327701620_SATVAVJAY_DAIVAVYAPASHRAY_CHIKITSA_BOON_TO_MANAS_VIKARA’S_Corresponding_Author

According to Charak Samhita, following methods are prescribed for Daiv vyapashraya.

  • 1. Mantra (Hymns)
  • 2. Aushadha (Amulets, Talisman)
  • 3. Mani (Wearing of gems)
  • 4. Mangala (Auspicious ceremony)
  • 5. Bali (Offering to god)
  • 6. Upahara (Gift)
  • 7. Homa(Oblations)
  • 8. Niyamana (Observance of scriptural rules)
  • 9. Prayascita (Atonement)
  • 10. Upavasa (Fasting)
  • 11. Svastyayana (Chanting of auspicious, Hymns)
  • 12. Pranipata (Observance to the god)
  • 13. Gamana (Going to pilgrimage)

The modern field of energy medicine is a part of this vast science. And it is growing very rapidly

Ancient civilizations like Inka, Mayans, Polynasian tribes extensively and effectively practiced mantra healing. We can still find mantra healers in African tribes. Shamanism practiced in native American Tribes is a form of Daiv vyapashraya.

Science Behind The Magic Water

And all this appears real instantly when we look at two mind-boggling scientific experiments –

Water Memory Experiment

This experiment slows that water exposed to different forms of music and environment.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_memory. Besides, this experiment has been repeated many times by different people with consistent results! So water remembers what happens. Probably, the belief that rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, or Narmada are scared is not a myth after all. Testing of Ganga water done in 1856 by a British scientist led to surprising results – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3225782/

A list of other experiments on Ganga water can be found here – https://www.facebook.com/scientific.vedas/posts/323655977821455. The bottom line is that water can retain the effects of meditation, prayer, and environmental vibrations.

Moong Sprouts Experiment

In Moong sprouts experiments conducted by heartfulness meditation center, the moong seeds were sprouted in two different conditions – the researchers placed some soaked seed in the meditation room and others in a room with TV and wifi radiations. After a few days, the moong sprouts exposed to Bluetooth, Tv, and wifi turned yellow and died. Whereas, the moong sprouts grown in the meditation room multiplied rapidly and were lush green.

Find the details under heading stress and diseases in https://www.daaji.org/travels-and-conversations-with-daaji-14-january-2019/

You can also try this experiment at your own home and see the difference!

Double Slit Experiment

this experiment is utterly amazing in the sense that it reflects that the matter might also possess a mind of its own and that we can influence the particle behavior with our mind!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment

So, matter works as the mind directs, consciously, or unconsciously. The great law of attraction also points towards the same thing. Here are some interesting reads regarding the relation of Ayurveda with the law of attraction.

Healing through Magical Water

I learned the method of making healing water through Heartfulness meditation. The book “the heartfulness way” And the procedure is really simple.

  • Fill a bowl with water.
  • Close your eyes and meditate on it for 30 minutes with the feeling that this water should heal anyone who consumes it.
  • Give it to the person concerned.

This remedy helps in the case of physical and mental disorders equally. And it is completely worth trying. The priceless things in the world are free – whether it is air or water, even food. Nature doesn’t charge for anything. Similarly, if you have faith, medical treatment is also free!

Hope that this information reaches everyone in need!

What is the best Ayurveda treatment for weight loss or maintenance?

You might not believe it but it is true. Over the past few years, I have tried some hundreds of herbs and therapies trying to reduce weight for people as well as for me, but nothing works like “nirjala” or dry fasting (without water). And I am saying this on medical grounds and personal experience.

Today, it is very hard for all of us to believe that we can get something without paying a lot of money or doing some pain-staking exercise. But doing nothing can actually get you better results.

The most important factor is control stress, because stress eating is one of the biggest cause behind any kind of weight gain. We try to find stress relief through false gratification derived through the sense of taste!

I personally started “nirjala” fasting last year and now I practiced it every month. And nothing goes wrong with a normal day, without much physical over-exertion or exposure to harsh sunlight. Nirjala fasting is an ideal method to reduce weight if you are in a sitting job. And trust me, once you get used to it, you will never feel dizzy, weak, or fainting!!!

I started with once a day meal fast, next I tried fasting only on fruits. Then I tried full day zero food fast with warm water. After that, I tried 1/2 day nirjala, as the concept of nirjala fasting made me very nervous. I was scared that I might faint or get excessive dehydration.

Here are a few benefits I found with nirjala (dry) fasting –

  • 10 kg weight loss in 2 months’ time without regaining the weight.
  • Reduced anger and frustration
  • Peaceful mind and clarity of thought
  • Effective Stress control
  • Better digestive and absorption capacity
  • Almost nil rate of diseases (seasonal cough, cold, indigestion, etc. ), better immunity
  • My chronic cold, stuffy nose and other congestive symptoms vanished. In fact, I don’t remember getting cold in the past 12 months. Earlier, I would start sneezing the moment I get up from the bed in the morning. Complete Relief from Mucus Accumulation in Sinuses through Dry Fasting – 48 Hours Ekadashi Observations
  • My skin disorder, itching, and inflammation started getting better on its own.
  • All my parameters are absolutely normal – BP, sugar, Hb, etc. (in fact, I was detected to be pro-diabetic 2 years back, now it is completely normal!)

The only condition is that you should eat properly when you are eating. So actually I do dry fasting for many days in a month. But I also eat very nutritious food for the rest of the month, so everything is balanced.

Nirajala fasting actually makes our bodies better as nutrition is more about your capacity to absorb food and not about eating more!

And with effective stress relief and regular dry fasting, it is IMPOSSIBLE to regain any weight! Trust me, I have a personal experience with this. Also let me know your experiences with dry fasting.

The Original Health Query

I am eating a lot! Food that are not health at all: chocolates, candies, fast food, hamburger, and I am feeling this urge to eat all the time. I can’t tell you that this is making me feel bad, I am feeling so happy and realized when eating these things, specially chocolate. However, I do know that this will do me harm in the long term… That’s why I want to stop this habit and gradually move to a more healthy diet. But how do I start without feeling that I am depriving myself from the happiness derived from these foods? How to be effective but at the same time gentle with myself during this transition?

The Treatment Approach

basically, I feel that you are suffering from a mild compulsive eating disorder where you feel that you have to eat all these things. They make you happy especially chocolates and candies. In Ayurveda it is called Pragya Aparadha.

Pragya Aparadha

This word Pragya Aparadha is made up of two words – Pragya and Aparadha. Pragya means wisdom and aparadha means crime and what you are doing is a crime against wisdom.

You already know that it is not healthy for you. Every time you eat it you feel that this is not healthy for me but since the food makes you happy, the food makes you content you eat it but at the back of your mind you’re feeling that you should try to stop

Pragya Aparadha is said to be the the biggest cause for disease according to Ayurveda because your mind knows that what you’re doing is not right and yet when you keep on eating these candies and chocolates, you gradually build up a sense of guilt in your mind that you are doing something wrong.

And this guilt lowers the immunity overall immunity of the body and seeks punishment in the form of the disease where you’ll fall sick and then you learn. It will create a big impression on your mind that I ate all those things and I’m sick. Now I’m not going to eat these things. It propels a kind of learning in this way. But we don’t need to learn this way since there are other ways to learn the right way of living. Any treatment in Ayurveda starts with the first and the most fundamental step that is the removal of course.

The Cause

Let’s see what is the cause in this case. To most of us, the cause will be junk food chocolates, candies and all that but if you dig deeper, you will find that the the cause is not eating chocolates or junk food. This eating of all the unhealthy food is the result of the cause the cause might be much deeper inside the cause might be lack of happiness because when you lack happiness you lack a natural sense of satisfaction through your overall lifestyle and the things that you are doing.

Then, this lack of happiness leads you to find happiness elsewhere, all the food that we eat creates a kind of satisfaction in our brain and especially chocolates, because they are sweet. They create a sense of satisfaction. Even Ayurveda says that sweet food creates sense of satisfaction, sense of security and that’s why most of the people, when they’re stressed, like eating sweet things because sweet things help them to calm down, help them feel more safe and it is a natural instinct of the body.

When we are stressed, we are in that the emergency mode, we are in sympathetic mode and sympathetic mode needs a lot of energy because it triggers flight fright and freeze response in this response you have to be ready to fight or to run away, so you need a lot of sugar. So when you eat sugar, body feels prepared and feel secure. My assumption is that you lack general happiness which will make you feel happy and satisfied in your life and because you lack that you are eating all these things and this is a very common problem now.

Stress Hidden in Subconscious Mind

Why you are unhappy is a personal cause. Sometimes we don’t realize why we are not happy, for example, if you have a real personal need but that personal need. For example, you need to leave your job. For example, you need to change your house. These are big needs.

You somehow feel deep inside that, this is not what I want to do. But there is also a sense of insecurity a sense of deep fear that it will destabilize what you already have and this fear hides the need, it hides the need, it curtains the need so you don’t see the need but still, you are unhappy inside.

Stress Eating

So you need to fill this space with chocolates and candies and hamburgers and these things are kind of painkillers for your need. So even when that these things are not healthy, you keep on eating them because you need to feel that pleasure, you need to feel that satisfaction.

So this is what I feel that there is an internal lack of happiness which needs to be filled. When you feel happy and satisfied, gradually you will see that these needs of eating chocolates or candies will fade away. You will not even remember to eat chocolate or candy.

Two Pronged Treatment

There can be a two-pronged treatment for your disorder. I will say that essentially it’s a mental disorder and not a physical disorder so the treatment has to come from the mind, the permanent treatment has to come from the mind. So here we can have two-pronged treatment, in which one is the immediate treatment and other is the long-term permanent treatment.

The first prong treatment is yukti vyapashraya, treatment by herbs and medicines. This treatment cannot bring you happiness, because that is a personal problem. You will have to figure it out. But –

YUKTIVYAPASHYA

The primary treatment in yukti vypashraya starts with a basic body detox, which you can do by general fasting, intermittent fasting. You can do it by fruit fasting, milk fasting. There are many kinds of fasting and you can choose your type.

The second prong and the most important one is going to be satyavajay or controlling the mind. In controlling the mind, we can use several methods like counseling, meditation, mindfulness, art therapy. We can explore all these options together and find out what works best for you. So these two treatments will go together.

The first treatment will prevent your body from further damage, strengthen it, give it time and space to deal with the more permanent and long-lasting treatment, that is the mental treatment. And if we practice it successfully, if we are able to find out the real cause and remove it probably it should not take more than six months for you to get completely cured.

As for tonsillitis (you also have tonsilitis), this is going to be the primary foundation treatment because tonsilitis is nothing but a buildup of all the wrong thing, a wrong metabolic pattern that is developing in your body. So, first if we do not remove the unhealthy food and unhealthy lifestyle habits tonsillitis is going to be very difficult to get cured.

However at the same time we can we can proceed with certain treatment for tonsillitis so that you get it immediate relief but the permanent treatment is going to be satvavjay or mental treatment!

The Hidden Cause Behind Low Concentration

The Hidden Cause Behind Low Concentration

Namaste, I am Kanika Ayurveda physician and today let’s see what is concentration and what is the hidden factor behind the lack of concentration.
According to Ayurveda, there are three factors to understand anything.
Dhi means grasping.
Dhriti means retention and Smriti means memory.
Out of all these three steps – Dhi or grasping is a factor to concentration because you cannot understand anything or internalize it when you are not focused.

What is Concentration?

The word “concentration” in Sanskrit means ekagrata and this word has a very beautiful meaning.  It has two words in it – Ek means one and Agra means front.
That means if you want to concentrate on anything you should have a single front, you should have a single focus, just like an arrow
Let’s take the example of light, when it is diffused, it has no power. But the same light, when amplified into the same wavelength, becomes a laser. And this laser can cut the hardest of the things in the world, it can cut even diamonds.
And this is what we can do with our thought process. If we can aline our thoughts in one single direction just like a magnet, we can have a laser-sharp concentration
But normally we do not have that. Normally we have lots of thoughts running in our minds but why do we have so many thoughts running in our minds?

Here, We can find a hidden but the most crucial reason for lack of concentration which is stress.

The Hidden Cause Behind Low Concentration

According to multiple scientific researches, stress is the single biggest factor that can cause a loss in sustainable concentration and this is because stress can actually damage our brain cells which can help us to focus and concentrate. let’s see how

The Stress Hormone

We have a special stress hormone inside our body – serum cortisol and whenever we are stressed, the level of this hormone increases in the blood. What this hormone does is to suppress all normal body functions and prepare our body for emergency conditions. You see, this hormone can hinder the maturation process of neurons and when the neurons do not mature properly then you definitely will have less cells to concentrate with.
Let’s see what serum cortisol does to the brain cells.

Stress hinders making of new brain cells

There are a lot of stem cells inside the brain and these cells mature into two kinds of cells – neurons and axons.
Neurons are the main functioning cells that process the information and axons are the like.
You know, we can compare neurons to the computer and axons are the wires of the computer. So in the brain, we have two kinds of things – we have computers and the wires connecting the computer.
Under the stress hormone, most of the stem cells mature not into neurons but into axons.

So, if you are stressed you will have more wires inside your brain than the computers and definitely it will lead to lower concentration, lower learning ability, and loss of memory as well.

And it does not happen only in infancy. This is a myth which has been busted by recent scientific experiment. You can develop immature neurons even as an adult.

Stress makes body environment unsuitable for normal brain functioning

Chronic stress makes us more prone to anxiety, mood swings, and these mood swings and anxiety result in low concentration.
Stress hormone affects all the systems in the body – the digestive system, excretory system, skin, everywhere.
It is very important to note that no single organ or system works inside the body as a single separate entity.
Everything is connected and therefore neurons very much depend on the good performance of the digestive system, excretory system, immunity and so one and so forth.
When you are stressed, when your body is under the effect of stress hormone all these systems,
all the systems of the body are suppressed. So you will not have good digestion, you will not be able to absorb proper nutrition, you will have a build-up of toxins in your body because the excretory system is not functioning properly
; and all this builds up into early cell death, early neuron that in the body. This makes of an environment in which neurons cannot function properly and therefore low concentration.

Stress triggers early cell death

Stress can trigger another very important process in the body – cell oxidation. Cell oxidation is a natural process by which the body removes old and aging.
However, if the rate of cell oxidation is accelerated then even the new cells will start to die and this is what happens under stress.
Stress already has led to immature neuron growth in the body, but on the other hand, it also kills the neurons which already there and functioning.
And therefore, stress causes lack of concentration in two ways, first of all, it hinders the maturation of neurons which are capable of concentration and on the other hand, it kills neurons, it induces early death in neuron because of oxidative stress.
Besides, it produces an overall environment in which the neurons cannot function properly.
Chronic stress does not affect only concentration. In the long run, it can also cause severe mental disorders like Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and so on.

How Stress Affects Brain Cells

Unfortunately, even infants are stressed today. According to many scientific studies, high levels of stress during pregnancy can lead to concentration-related disorders in children like ADHD.

Ayurveda on Stress

Now let’s see what Ayurveda says about stress. According to Ayurveda, the mind is the source of the body. So, everything basically emerges from the mind. It is like a projector and the body is the projection of the mind.
According to Ayurveda, there three mental patterns – Sattva or balance, Raja or hyperactivity, and Tamas or inactivity.
When mind undergoes Rajo guna then it becomes hyperactive and this hyperactivity descends to the physical body

One subtype of vata dosha -prana vayu controls intelligence.
Negative emotions like mental unrest or stress (anavasthit chitta), anxiety (chinta), fear (bhaya) can lead to an imbalance in vata dosha.
This imbalanced vata dosha in-turn contributes to a lack of concentration.
Vata has a wasting effect on the body and as the previous studies reflect, an imbalance in vata dosha leads to gradual wasting all over the body including the neurons.

So, the low rate of maturation or the early wasting effect of neurons is basically a result of mental hyperactivity or stress.
In this context, it becomes very important to note that stress causes neurodegeneration and this neurodegeneration leads to lack of concentration.

So, basically, the mind affects the body, and the body in turn leads to another effect on the mind. This may become a vicious cycle because low concentration can trigger more stress in a person which in turn will lead to even lower levels of concentration.

And therefore, we see that stress is the basic, the most fundamental cause for lack of concentration. It’s not anything else. According to Ayurveda, the permanent cure for any disease lies in the removal of the cause.
Without removing the cause, you can actually never reach a permanent state of health and this applies to the lack of concentration as well,
because if you have lack of concentration and if you do not remove the fundamentals factor stress behind this lack of concentration then you will never reach a permanent level of high concentrations

And this is the reason why most of the medicines whether they are allopathic or Ayurvedic, fail to have any permanent result in case of low concentration because the problem is not physical.
It is mental and no mental problem can be treated by a physical solution.

But there are ways to achieve concentration.
And there are two ways to achieve anything – The right one and the wrong one and the same goes for concentration as well.

You can be the highly focused when you are in a natural, peaceful state of mind
or when a mad dog chasing you.
So, a highly relaxed state of mind or a mind in the emergency mode, both result in the same thing – high levels of concentration.
However, their effects on the body are very different.

In the coming videos, let’s explore what are some of the methods to achieve concentration and what are their effects on the body.
Till then, namaste and thank you for reading!

General Ayurveda Dietary Plan

According to the ethics of Ayurveda, a Vaidya(Ayurveda physician) should not charge for medical advice but only for medicines. I personally believe that no sick person should be forced to pay for medical advice. If you opt for free consultation, please go through the following steps –

REMOVE THE CAUSE

According to Ayurveda, without removing the root cause of the diseases, you can never reach a permanent cure. Most of the time wrong diet, lifestyle habits and stress is the cause.

Here are some steps that can help you to remove most of the root causes. I request you to implement the advice given in the free resource as a first step towards Ayurvedic treatment. More than 80% of your health problems will disappear once the recommended Ayurvedic daily and seasonal routine is already in place.

In some places, I have recommended fruits, ghee and organic food. However, even if you are not able to afford them, it is perfectly fine. Please practice mindful eating in whatever you eat, because energy that comes from vigyanamaya kosha (seat of wisdom) or anandamaya kosha (seat of bliss) is what keeps us alive and you can be healthy without any fancy food.

In fact, not eating can make you healthier. Fasting has most amazing benefits, including cancer prevention.

Correct The Diet

  1. Try to eat only when hungry, unless you are very weak, or thin. This is a crucial advice for patients of all lifestyle disorders like diabetes, hypertension etc. For detailed explanation –

Why Home Remedies Don’t Work, and How to Safely Try Unknown Home Remedies!

Now-a-days there are so many Ayurvedic remedies available online, you see, for example – 5 tips for weight gain, 5 tips for weight loss or 7 tips for headache and so on and so forth.

However, these home remedies fail to produce identical results in all kinds of people. Some people may experience a huge relief; however there might be other who might feel no difference at all. And have you ever wondered- why is that so?

The people who follow Ayurvedic home remedies remind me of a friend who used to mug up all the answers in the text book exactly in the same sequence and she would reproduce these answers exactly in the same sequence in the question paper also. However, in the question paper the sequence will be changed and all her answers will always be wrong. And she would always be so confused “why is this happening?”

You see, home remedies work exactly in the same manner if you don’t know why you are doing them. If you don’t know what fits and what does not and this is what happens with the people who don’t know what their body needs.

You see, applicability is a huge factor here.  One home remedy which might work in a great way for some other person might not be applicable to you, because you might have a different body type or you stay in a different region or you have a different climate or currently there is a different season, or you have a different digestive capacity, there can be so many factors at work. Our body is such a complex dynamic metabolic system and it is so disrespectful of our uniqueness to expect exactly the same result from a same home remedy.

Some of the factors are –

  • PRAKRATI OR BODY TYPE
    • Vata Dominant
      • Hot and Oily Herbs
    • Pitta Dominant
      • Cool and Sweet Herbs
    • Kapha Dominant
      • Hot and Dry Herbs
  • REGIONS
    • Ayurveda describes 3 Major types of REGIONS
      • Anoop (Wet Lands)
      • Jangalya (Dry Lands)
      • Sadharan (Normal Land)
  • CLIMATE
    • Climatic cycle defines local seasons and weather conditions
    • That’s why, summer in a desert is different from that in a mountain.
    • Herbs grown in the local climate are the best for the natives.
  • SEASON
    • Classical Ayurvedic Remedies change according to Seasonal Variations.
Ritu Haritaki (Seasonal Combination of Chebulic myrobalan)

DIGESTION

Digestion determines the real benefits of herbal Remedies.

Haritaki (Chebulic myrobalan) is a wonder herb! However a person with INDIGESTION must never consume it.

Even your faith in the home remedy can bring about a drastic change in the results. No one today can deny the impact of placebo in the field of medicine. And if you have a huge faith in a home remedy, you might get incredible results from it even if it does not suit you and that’s why the Bhabhuti given by a sage works!

READ THE QUESTION PROPERLY

In my school, before every exam the examiner will announce” please read the question paper carefully” and it will also be written on the question paper because if we don’t read the question carefully, we will not answer the question, but will just vomit out what it there in our own mind.

When we know our health condition, when we know our body and what it needs , we have read the question properly and this is the right time to answer.

Now you cannot go exploring your body when you are reeling with pain. I quite understand that. And therefore, there is a method to try unknown home remedies, if you must.

UPSHAY

Upshay is an Ayurvedic dosage technique where the patient is given a very small dose, let’s says one fourth or one tenth of the actual required quantity and kept under observation for some time. If he feels relief, the medicine fits otherwise it does not.  Plain and simple, we cannot profess to understand everything about the body!

For a Vaidya (Ayurveda physician), this method is a great tool for differential diagnosis as well.  It helps to determine or verify the exact Dosha situation in the body. Besides, this method of using minimum dosage also protects you from sudden and harsh allergic reactions, as this method gives ample time to the body to adjust its response.

Therefore, as a lay man, if you must use a home remedy in an emergency, try to use it in very small dosage and observe the response for some time, it can be one hour or  a day, depending on your convenience and then decide to use it for a longer duration.

I hope that this information helps you to choose your best home remedy.

Is it possible to live without food, water and even air?

How Energy Affects Different Layers of Existence

In the above video, Daaji, my meditation teacher, talks about different layers of existence. According to ancient yogic science, we have five layers of existence. And energy feeds all of these layers differently. We all know about hybrid cars. Hybrid cars can run on liquid fuel and electricity. Also, there can be multiple options of energy – coal, solar energy, wind energy etc.

Here is an interesting thing – any liquid fuel (petrol or diesel) produces energy through combustion. Combustion releases some power, but more amount of heat and worse – poisonous gases. This is similar to the way our bodies process the food.

Annamaya Kosha

The first layer is called annamaya kosha. This layer absorbs the energy from food and passes it to other layers. Most of us live on the basis of gross energy absorbed by annamaya kosha. And therefore, people dependent solely on food for survival, live out their lives stuck in this kosha. This kosha is like a diesel or petrol car. It takes in material fuel and gives out smoke. Compared to other kosha, this is the most basic and most primitive mode of survival. However, dependency on this kosha is only the first step towards a subtler life.

Pranamaya kosha

The second layer is called Pranamaya kosha. This is the subtle energy of the body governed by prana vayu or the air. This is also called Chi in Chinese spiritual tradition. In primitive stages of spiritual development, this kosha receives its energy from the lower kosha – annamaya kosha. However, in a more developed state, pranamaya kosha can sustain life without food and even water! This state is like an electric car, that is directly connected to the pure source of energy.

In the Daoist  tradition as mentioned earlier, bigu is the art of surviving only on air and yes, it is possible! This concept is called Breatherianism and many people are actively following, it across the world. In the Vedic tradition, it is mentioned as the stage of pranayama. This is a stage when a person can survive only on the air. So, in the stage of pranayama we are supposed to master the art of living on the air and establish our existence in our energy body.

Thesis on Bigu

Here is another person has survived on air for 60 years – Prahlad Jani

Still another way to charge up your body without eating anything is sun gazing. And no wonder, all of the ancient civilizations worshipped the sun. Probably, it was more of a subtle scientific mode of feeding than anything religious. For more information on sun gazing, please watch the following video. Besides, there is a lot more information available on –

Manomaya Kosha

The third is the manomaya kosha. This is the mental layer that governs the functioning of the mind, the sensory organs and the dreams. This layer is the basis of the our interconnectedness. The miracles of telepathy, prophetic visions and super-natural sensory powers emerge from this layer.

This layer is more powerful than both annamaya and pranamaya kosha. Vedic literature mentions sages who stopped breathing as a part of their penance. It is believed that Guru Nanak stayed under water for 3 days and came out of the river – alive! I hope that some day we are able to experiment on this concept. If this is true, leave apart food, and water, you might not even need air to survive.

However, powers of manomaya kosha can turn against us if not managed properly! In an under-developed state, this layer can get affected by the negative vibrations. According to Ayurveda, there are two fields of diseases – mana (mind) and sharir (body). And the mana or the mind is the primary factor for getting sick. And therefore, it is important to preserve manomaya kosha against wrong or negative thoughts.

The disease might start in the body and reach to the mind (psoriasis leading to depression) or start with the mind and reach the mind(skin allergy triggered by stress). If you have a weak body but a strong mind, you will not fall sick. But if you have a weak mind, then even a strong body, good nutrition and loads of health supplements will not be able to help you.

According to my understanding, when the mind is affected, its negativity spirals down to reflect in the form of a metabolic loophole. This metabolic loophole invites and incubates various disease causing factors. And that is why a depressed, tensed, angry or anxious person has all the doors open for diseases. This helps me to understand why those happy and content little slum children don’t fall sick!

So basically, annamaya, pranamaya and manomaya kosha are subject to imbalance. But they can be healed by the higher absolute sources.

Vigyanamaya Kosha

The fourth kosha vigyanamaya kosha or the wisdom body is the seat of intellect or Buddhi. This is the kosha responsible for personal entity, and therefore ego. It is beyond mana or the emotional mind. It is beyond beliefs, thoughts, emotions, prejudices and all the mental fog created by them.  Vigyanamaya kosha is the layer of discretion, where imagination dissolves and we come face to face with reality.

As far as I understand, this is the seat of pure energy. So, if you are stable in this kosha, you are beyond a car, you are electricity itself!

All the supernatural healing powers descend from this kosha.

Anandamaya Kosha

Writing anything about this kosha will be dishonest as only an experienced person should elaborate on this topic. I hope to know more about it. As of now, I have this information that this is the seat of complete bliss.

I am writing all this not because I have any spiritual experiences. However, I am floating these thoughts so that someone who really knows might get back to me :). May we all grow together through sharing!

Ekadashi Fasting: Amazing Effects in Dental Problems

Recently, one of my relatives who has extremely bad teeth, tried Ekadashi fasting. He had a terrible toothache for past few days and there was no dentist to treat his condition because of corona lock-down. Every night, his tooth would pain terribly.

So, he decided to give a break to eating and went for Ekadashi zero food, zero water fasting this month on 18th (18th May 2020).

Very surprising, the toothache stopped. And he did not take any pain killer or any other medicines. He also did not make any other kind of dietary or lifestyle change. We can attribute it to not eating anything the whole day. And so there was no food stuck in his cavities that might cause pain. However, the tooth did not ache even the next day when he started eating food, and for few days after that. It started aching again on 23rd May 2020.

And this got me to think about our dental problems in a different way. probably, our digestive system is the source of all our disorders, even the dental ones.

Digestive system is the source of all the body fluids, including the saliva. And saliva is the fluid that creates the oral environment. Now, we know that all body fluids share some basic features. For example, if the digested juice is acidic in nature , everything right from blood to urine will turn more acidic. No wonder, what goes inside, makes the body.

And wrong food can turn all the body fluids slightly more acidic than normal. And we can imagine what can happen if our saliva is slightly more acidic than normal on a regular basis.

Normally, the food stuck in teeth gets softened and slips out after some time, along with saliva. Tongue also helps to clean the teeth. However, what if the environment around teeth is not healthy?

Acidic environment in the oral cavity can weaken the gums, cause mouth ulcers, help the germs to thrive and thus trigger rapid tooth decay. And probably that’s why we see that some people rapidly develop tooth problems, whereas many others do well even without a strict dental hygiene.

A few decades back, a lot of Indian had bright white teeth, without use of any tooth brush or tooth paste. However, they used to fast regularly, used neem twig as brush(and this twig provided both natural bristles and a bitter tooth cleaning solution). Besides, the overall quantity of sugar in the food was very low.

Sugar in our food does not affect our teeth that much by getting stuck on them. I personally believe that what sugar does to the overall body fluids is more important. It creates a rapid sugar surge that takes some effort on body’s part to control. Very frequent sugar surges tire out the pancreas and promote rapid decay across the body, including the teeth. Probably, that’s why dental problems are far more severe in case of diabetics!

If all of the above logic is correct teeth health is directly related to gut health. Probably, it is impossible to have healthy teeth , if your gut is not healthy. And therefore a dentist should also prescribe a healthy diet and lifestyle to keep the digestion healthy, because that’s the root of all dental problems.

Most of the women experience rapid tooth decay during pregnancy. Probably, it is because they eat all kinds of things, that too in a huge amount. This abnormal diet puts an extra pressure on the digestive system. And it gets derailed. The toxins thus produced due to under-digested food alter the composition of saliva and thus accelerate tooth decay.

So, now I believe that dry fasting for 24 hours can actually bring back not only your digestion, but also all body fluids to a completely balanced state. It definitely helps to remove excess sugar from all the body fluids, but also deep cleanse the body tissues and rejuvenate them! And if we do not spoil its effects by random eating afterwards, monthly Ekadashi dry fasting can extrapolate and multiply the health benefits exponentially.

The above explanation looks logical. However, I have no experimental proof for the above hypotheses. Anyways, I look forward to conduct some experiments on this concept in future. If you already have similar experiences or are doing some kind of related research I will be more than happy to know about it, please share!

May all of us achieve the ultimate aim of human life through shared wisdom!

What We Can Learn Today From Ayurveda

Today, when the world is facing this extreme corona crises , we can learn a few very important things from Ayurveda

Holistic Approach

The entire body is well connected, one cannot treat one organ and leave the other organ unaffected. So, a holistic approach is the only way to achieve any cure in the human body. All Ayurvedic medicines have multiple effects on different organs of the body and harm no part of the body in the process of treatment.

Natural

Everything whether it is product or service it is derived right from nature in Ayurveda. Infact, Ayurveda medicine is the next step in the treatment, the first step is always healing the body by itself. Simple things like air, water and earth can also heal the body.

All Ayurvedic medicines are derived from plant and made in Holistic Manner, manually from hand. No Ayurvedic preparation requires heavy machinery or artificial methods. In this way Ayurvedic treatment has zero carbon footprints.

Whole

All Ayurvedic medicines are derived from nature. According to Ayurveda, everything on earth, living or nonliving, has medicinal value. Besides, instead of using chemicals extracted from herbs, the entire herbal part of medicinal value, like fruit, root, stem, etc, is used. The chemical of medicinal importance is balanced by other coexisting chemicals and roughage provided by plant cellulose. This wholeness of Ayurvedic medicine is a contrast to herbal extracts, where a single chemical compound is extracted in hope to produce a faster and better effect. This singling out destroys the possibility of an overall balanced impact of the unique naturally co-existing chemicals.

A singer works with his mouth, a painter works with his hands. But will you get a faster result of you cut out the mouth of a singer or the hands of a painter? Will the hand work faster than?

The effect of a medicinal herb is like the beauty of a flower. How can we appreciate its beauty by dissecting it? We fail to realize the life resides and sustains itself in wholeness and not in fragments.

Disease Eradication

Ayurveda does not aim to treat or subdue the symptoms. For example, impure blood is considered the cause of acne in Ayurveda. Therefore blood purification Therapy is the main treatment for acne and not the application of topical creams.

Ayurveda believes that all treatment comes from inside the body and not from outside. According to Ayurveda, any disease happens only when the body is weak from inside. And any permanent cure can come only when we remove the weakness from inside the body. When the body is strengthened to its natural form, it can fight back the disease and treat itself come on even without any external intervention.

Side Effects

No Ayurvedic Medicine is reported to cause hormonal imbalances or allergies even when used for a long duration.

However, most of the people do not know that this is true only for Herbal range of Ayurvedic medicine. There is another range of medicine which come under rasashastra. Medicines of receptive contain heavy metals like mercury, lead etc. Combination of Mercury and sulphur is highly praised in rasashastra medicine.

However these medicines containing heavy metals can bring severe Side Effects if they are not properly prepared. They can even be fatal if not used properly.

However when used in a right way these medicines can bring immediate improvement in severe conditions like facial paralysis kidney failure extreme fever etc.

Prevention

Ayurveda elaborately describes healthy food and lifestyle to avoid diseases. The motto of Ayurveda is “ to keep people healthy and treat IF anyone falls sick”.

As far as I know, Ayurveda is the most elaborate preventive system in the history of medicine. Ayurveda sees that prevention is a daily task and not something which you do once in a while.

Besides Ayurvedic treatment extends to a wider region and covers much more than only vaccines for health supplements. According to Ayurveda the most effective prevention comes from inside the body. It is a known fact today according to all scientific studies, that stress is the leading cause of 99% diseases. And therefore the most effective prevention in Ayurveda is aachar Rasayan.

According to the tenets of Aacharya rasayana, A person should not get stressed, angry, greedy, jealous, or sorrowful. Avoiding all these negative emotions can help to preserve the the ultimate mental homeostasis which reflects in a complete hormonal balance and nervous balance in the body. And when these two control systems in the body are completely balanced there can be no disease.

Ayurvedic prevention starts from herbs, dinacharya, ritucharya, but it goes beyond the physical dimension to the mental dimension of prevention period and therefore it is a whole and perfect prevention.

Individualistic Approach

All human beings are unique, they have different body types (Prakrati), therefore Ayurveda advocates personalized treatment for everyone.

Ayurveda is a person to describe the park Prakriti or individual body constitution for each person. Each person is naturally susceptible to one range of diseases where as he might never get others. Therefore Ayurveda AIMS for a perfect prevention and a permanent treatment by ascertaining the body type of a person.

It is best to go for the battle when you know the war field. Without knowing your body, any treatment or prevention is like shooting arrows in the dark.

Psychosomatic Approach

Mind rules the body. Many lifestyle disorders like diabetes, hypertension are directly linked to stress.

We have already discussed about aachar Rasayan in previous paragraphs. However aachar Rasayan is the preventive method. Most interestingly, Ayurveda has the most extensive range of treatments for all kinds of mental disorders. Ayurveda underlines the Treatment of the mental base of all diseases through Satvavjaya Therapy.

And it is very interesting to note that shock treatment, music therapy, arts therapy, counselling, meditation, mindfulness et cetera are all discussed as parts of mental treatment in Ayurveda.

Body-Based Treatment

Diseases might be caused by pathogens, but a weak body defense provides the safe harbor to the pathogens. Therefore Ayurvedic Treatment is never focused on the removal of pathogens but enabling the body to prevent or fight against diseases.

For more interesting information on these lines, please check out Ayurveda and Law of Attraction-II

Humanitarian Approach

The word ayu means the duration for which body, senses, mind, and soul come together and form a living creature. Therefore Ayurveda is not applicable only to human beings but also to plants, animals and birds. It Aims to serve all living creatures without any discrimination.

According to Ethics of Ayurveda, no Vaidya or Ayurvedic doctor should charge a consultation fee. All consultation on medical advice should be free of cost to all people. And therefore even if a person is not able to pay he should not be denied medical advice.

And in the case of Ayurveda, even medical advice can help help to treat a person. As he can try various home remedies for Herbal medicines to cure himself. This is a true Holistic Si system which is all inclusive without any discrimination against financial status of the patient.

Even medicines for free for the poor. According to Ayurvedic ancient text, Vaidya or Ayurvedic doctor can keep 1/11th part of all the medicines prepared for the rich. These medicines can be used for the Welfare of the poor people.

Conclusion

In the end, I would say that all knowledge or wisdom that comes with the intention of healing the pain is Ayurveda. It is the science of life and no matter where it emerges and with whatever name, it should be treated with respect. And therefore it is useless to find out which is the best system of medicine. We should try to integrate all healing wisdom across the globe for the Welfare of all living creatures.
