How to Use Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is one of the wonder herbs of Ayurveda. Some scientific researches have proved it to be very effective for multiple health benefits. But unfortunately, most of the people do not know how to use it.

Ashwagandha can be used in many more ways and in multiple combinations according to the individual requirements. Some of the widely used Classical preparations based on Ashwagandha are

  • Ashwagandhaghrita
  • Ashwagandhavaleha
  • Ashwagandharista
  • Sukumaraghrta – especially for children, made in Indian butter or Ghee.
  • Maharasnadi yoga – used for pain relief
  • Ashwagandha churna
  • Saubhagyasunthipaka – normally used for speedy postpartum recovery

According to Ayurveda, each individual has a different body type or prakrati. He will have a different genetic constitution as well unique emotional and physiological brought up. Besides, he has a different diet and lifestyle than others. Therefore every individual has different physiological needs.

In Ayurveda, normally there are no fit-all guidelines, esp. in the case of herbal remedies. However, here are some general home remedies that can be used by most of the people without any side effects. Please take care to use these home remedies according to individual digestive capacity because it is important for a herb to get digested properly in order to create the desired health benefits. While starting any medicine, it is important to prepare the body for a good digestion. Therefore it is a good idea to fast for 1 day before starting any of the following remedies. Besides one should have a hearty lunch and a very light dinner to preserve the digestion in it’s the best form.

Ashwagandha Based Home Remedies for

General Wellness –

Take 1 tsp of Ashwagandha churna early morning empty stomach with luke-warm water/ normal water. Avoid eating anything for next 30 min to ensure proper absorption of the herb.  This remedy helps to normalize any imbalance in the overall physiology.

Male Fertility

Mix 1-2 tsp of Ashwagandha churna in 500 ml milk. Boil the milk until approx half of the quantity evaporates and only approx 250 ml milk remains in the vessel. Sieve the milk and mix 1-2 tsp of Puran Ghrit or organic A2 cow ghee in it. Drink this milk early morning empty stomach. Avoid morning tea or any other food for the next 45-60 minutes after consuming this milk. Please consume freshly prepared warm milk for best results. Continue this milk for 2-3 months in order to see the best results. Avoid excess sexual activity for this duration.

Female Fertility

Mix 1 tap each of Ashwagandha and Shatavari in 500 ml milk and boil the solution till only half of it remains. Sieve the milk and add 1-2 tsp of Puran ghee or organic A2 cow ghee to the organic milk and consume when warm and fresh early morning empty stomach every day. Continue drinking this milk for 2-3 months to see the best results.

Asthma

Take 1 tsp of Ashwagandha churna, 5-6 cardamom, 2-3 cloves, 1 tsp of turmeric. Make a mixture of 200 ml of milk and 200 ml water. Add the herbs to the mixture and boil till only half of the liquid remains. Add 1-2 tsp of Puran Ghrit or organic A2 cow ghee to the milk. Consume this milk warm and fresh before bed. Avoid going to sleep for the next 25-30 minutes after consuming this milk. This remedy is also helpful in allergic bronchitis, chronic rhinitis, and chronic cough.

Memory

Take 1-2 tsp of Ashwagandha Avaleha with warm milk at night before bed. Avoid going to sleep for 20-30 mins after consuming this medicine.

Bodybuilding

Mix 1 tsp of Ashwagandha Ghrita in 200 ml of warm organic milk and consume after breakfast. Ensure a healthy appetite through regular exercise while consuming this remedy otherwise, it might result in weight gain. This remedy also helps to relieve the body pain during the first few days after starting the exercise.

General Weakness

Take 10 ml of Ashwagandharishta and mix it with an equal amount of water. Consume this liquid after lunch in order to remove indigestion, general weakness and during recuperation. This remedy should not be used by Pitta or vata prakrati people, alcoholics, and menstruating or pregnant women without the advice of a qualified physician.

Fever

Take 1 tsp of Ashwagandha Churna, 8-9 fresh Tulsi leaves, 10 gm coriander leaves, 1 tsp of organic turmeric powder. Mix 200 ml of milk with 200 ml of water. Add all the herbs to this liquid mixture and boil until half of the liquid evaporates. Consume this milk every after 2-3 hours to reduce the fever. Even if you are taking antibiotics, this milk will help to prevent possible damage to blood cells, liver and kidney due to fever as well as antibiotics.
